Closing Remarks
(Dr. Sander Gilman)
In addition to the plenary speakers we are inviting a range of those within the psychoanalytic community in the United States and abroad who have contributed to the discussion of the implications of newer models for training psychoanalysts within the university setting.
One panel will focus on international perspectives on the training of psychoanalysts within the university. The second panel will present a discussion of the implications of clinical training in the context of the North American university systems.
We intend to structure this conference to maximize discussion. We expect to open the conference sessions to a wide-range of academics and administrators.
Since many of the same questions have been presented, here is some information about the conference and answers to questions you might have:
- How do I get to and from the airport?
Airport transfers will be provided for all speakers by Atlanta Superior Shuttle Service. If you are a guest, we will reserve transportation for you upon request, but you will be expected to cover the cost yourself. - Will the conference proceedings be published?
All of the speakers will be asked to look again at their contributions after the conference in light of the discussion. The will then be asked to submit revised papers by MONDAY, January 21, 2008. Preferably, these will be RTF attachments following the APA format. We will then speak to the editors of the journals of the organizations that are cosponsoring the conference about publication. - Will meals be provided?
For speakers meals will be provided at the Emory Conference Center Hotel from Sunday dinner through Tuesday lunch. If you are staying later, then you will be reimbursed for any other meals.
If you are a guest, breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided Monday and Tuesday. - I am a speaker. Will my expenses be paid?
All expenses will be paid for the speakers of the conference; however, no honoraria will be conferred for participation. - Who will be participating in this conference and who is the the target audience for the lectures?
The audience will consist of academic professionals, clinicians, and graduate students. The target audience, however, is the academic, non-clinical community. - How long will the papers be? How are they structured?
The papers should be approximately 35 minutes in length and should present the speakers' views on how or whether clinical experience and analytic training can or should be integrated into the university program. - What will the lectures cover?
The focus of this conference will be the potential integration of clinical training and experience into university programs of psychoanalysis. It is a follow up to the IPA conference that looked at non-clinical programs. The agenda is clear: there is a broad interest in moving to a joint institute/university co-certification of programs and we want to speak about pros- and contras. There will be international representatives to discuss other models. - Will the lectures be accessible to the hearing-impaired?
While there are no plans to offer captioning, it can be provided upon request. If you have questions about accessibility, please contact the Psychoanalytic Studies Program. - Will there be a charge for registration?
No. Registration is open to all and there will be no fees associated with it. However, guests from out of town who are not speaking will be responsible for their own accommodations. Rooms have been reserved at the Emory Inn with a group rate for all guests. - I would like to attend. How do I register?
Although registration is open, space is limited. If you would like to participate, click here and fill out the form. - I have a question not listed here.
